CJI, Defence Minister walked down memory lane

Kochi (PTI): Taking time off their busy schedules, Union Defence Minister A K Antony and Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan, on Saturday walked down memory lane along with their old friends as they visited their alma mater-- the 100-year-old Maharaja's college here.
Inaugurating the 'Maharajakeeyasangamam', the alumini meet of the college, Justice Balakrishnan said his years in the college gave him strength and have guided him throughout his career.
"I can never forget the contributions made by my teachers in my life", the CJI, who studied in the Zoology department here from 1962-65, said.
Defence Minister A K Antony reminisced his days when he was an activist of the Kerala Students Union (KSU), a young wing of the Congress, in the late fifties.
Describing Maharaja's as one of the best colleges in India, he said the institution had shaped his character and given him confidence to face the battles of life.
"This is not just a college, but a training ground for all generations", Antony said.
State Finance minister, Thomas Issac, also a alumni, urged the former students gathered to raise a corpus fund to improve infrastrcutre.
The old students' association also gave Issac a memorandum highlighting their concerns and the minister promised all help.
Among others who attended the inaugural function were State Forest minister Binoy Viswom, Kochi Mayor Mercy WIlliams, Kerala High Court judge Harun-Al Rashid, Venu Rajamony, the Indian Consul General in Dubai and well know writer M Leelavathi.
K R Vishwambharan, Vice Chancellor of the Kerala Agricultural University, K S Radhakrishnan, Vice Chancellor of the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit were among those were also present at the occasion.
Actors Mamooty and Dileep, who are also old students, are expected to attend the day long programme.
